Simple Green Smoothies
By Jen Hansard and Jadah Sellner
These days, I find myself rarely doing book reviews. I’ve read a few children’s books because I am trying to build a small book collection for my son. My husband and I have been talking about making smoothies and I am always looking for ways to add fruit and veggies to our daily life. I hope that I can make him smoothies to take on the way out the door! He is always rushing to get to work and I would love to send him to work with a smoothie in his hand. I am so thrilled to receive Simple Green Smoothies to read! It is the first cookbook that I can really use!
Simple Green Smoothies teaches readers how to incorporate delicious, nutrient-packed recipes into their daily routines to create a foundation of health on which to build. Instead of counting calories or eliminating whole food groups, Jen and Jadah have one simple suggestion: drink one green smoothie a day. With a 10-day green smoothie kick start plan and chapters like Natural Beauty and Green Smoothie Bowls, the new book includes more than 100 innovative, yummy recipes to get everyone in the family (kids included!) addicted to blending.
Simple Green Smoothies is not another diet. It’s a kickstart to a healthier lifestyle!
I read through Simple Green Smoothies in just a few hours. I like their idea of using mason jars to enjoy their smoothies in. They explain what sizes they use for adults and children. They suggest using mason jars to store your smoothie ingredients in. That way, you can pre-pack the ingredients in the jars and store them in the freezer. When you are ready to make your smoothies just pour your ingredients in a blender, add liquid and blend.
You also have the option to blend your smoothies the night before, store in an airtight mason jar and enjoy the next day.
Simple Green Smoothies is packed full of ideas and suggestions on how to get started, fun recipes to try and much more. I love the variety of recipes they offer. Since I am just beginning, I am going to start with my favorite fruits and vegetables for now. Once I get that down, I may try using mason jars. For now, I use shaker cups to drink my smoothies from.
I would love to lose weight and find more energy! I hate feeling how I feel. Right now, I am working on weaning myself off of coffee. I dislike being dependent on caffeine. Within the last week or so, I have really cut down on my coffee consumption. The taste does not appeal to me as much. I started drinking coffee because it gave me that extra pep in my step. I also find myself taking a lot of natural supplements for many different reasons: weight loss, boost energy, mood enhancer and more.
I really think this book will help inspire me to make more smoothies. My goal is to improve my overall health. I’ve been trying to lose weight for about a year now.
There are so many recipes to try. My plan is to start simple and work my way through different ones as I get comfortable making them.
Simple Green Smoothies is a positive and fun read. I am excited to try making healthy smoothies for my family. Hopefully I can trick my son into trying them! He would love them if he just tried one!
