We are moving to our new apartment and plan on buying a new washer and dryer.  We did stop by a used appliance store, however, we really do not know what we are buying with used.  We would love to buy used to save money but we do not know the history of the appliances.  How old are the parts, and no peace of mind from buying from a chain store.  Also, we feel more confident buying new that comes with a manufacturer’s warranty.

The last time we bought a washer and dryer was in late 2004 on Black Friday.  Of course, we got an awesome deal with the store sales going on.  Unfortunately, when we moved from Nevada to North Carolina, we were unable to take our washer and dryer with us.  Now that our new home has a washer and dryer hookup, we want to get our own set.  We could rent, however, we are staying for two years.  In the long run, our money would be better spent buying our own appliances.

Yesterday, we stopped by Lowe’s and The Home Depot to price them out.  Lowe’s only had one set that was around our price range.  I prefer The Home Depot, only because my parents have always invested in the company.  The Home Depot had at least three sets around our price range!

We plan on looking for washers and dryers after Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.  We hope to catch the store specials and sales to help us save more!

I am always drawn towards the American made appliances!  I also prefer the energy star appliances because they would help save money in the long run.  It would be nice to splurge on the brand and model I really wanted!

Great post! I agree with you on buying American made and I don’t blame you for not wanting to rent and buying instead, and going with reputable company on top of that for your appliances. My hubby is potentially reconsidering moving with the way the management is being here, depending on whether or not we find a house somewhere and how long the management wants to take to figure out their new rates. Our rent is still the same for us for this month and depending on whether or not they figure out their new rates soon, we’ll be going month to month and he wants to sign a new yearly lease. He doesn’t like that he can’t do that yet.

Our rent has gone up to high for us to stay here. I am really looking forward to cheaper rent and more space!

I am definitely with you on American made. We will be in the market for a dryer soon as well.

  4. I hate shopping for appliances, lol! Even though I use them so much! 🙂 Good luck with your washer and dryer hunt!
