When Life Gives You Lemons

I started writing for BeautyBrite almost 8 years ago, as a way to have an outlet because of a car accident that almost killed me. And almost 8 years later I’m right back in the same position, of sitting here not being able to walk again after my 10th surgery ( my 4th ankle operation). While so much has changed it’s hard not to look at this situation and get overcome with emotions of just how much my life has changed since that cold November day.

A day that started like every other, ending in one of the worst nightmares I could ever imagine. This person who had no regard for anyone but himself to get behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level of .36, how none of us died I’ll never know. No one should have gotten out of this accident alive.

Car accident 2016

I sit here knowing that there is a plan, a plan even if I don’t know what it is. I shouldn’t have survived three out of four limbs being broken, a compound fracture to the left arm and dislocated elbow, a concussion, a shattered heel, a cut so deep on my right knee it almost severed my leg, and breaking my right wrist.

Some days the pain is so bad I can hardly walk or move, and yet I keep going. I keep going because I have four tiny people who count on me. I won’t let this pain stop me. I won’t let the unknown stop me. I won’t let the multiple hurdles stop me.

Drunk driving is preventable, if you see something say something. Don’t let someone get behind the wheel because next time that family/ your family may not be so lucky. For more information please click here.

So when life gives you lemons make lemonade and take a deep breath because it’s all going to be ok somehow.

Essentials For Your First Aid Supplies

As a parent, I realized I should have first aid supplies on hand. I think I realized, I am an adult and I should be responsible and have the essentials on hand! As a special needs mom, I know anything can happen, including accidents. It is inevitable, that whatever you own will get ruined or go missing at some point in time. It is not a matter of “if” but “when”. So it makes sense to have the essentials on hand. Being prepared in any situation is important. I find that when your child gets hurt, you can get tunnel vision and forget what you need to do to help them.

In the meantime, I created my own little first aid box with my supplies all in one place. I have them all gathered, including hydrogen peroxide, creams, thermometer, etc. I have them ready for whatever happens.

Ways To Save At Disneyland

Disneyland can be an expensive place to spend a day but with the right preparation you can still have a great time and save money. if it is your first visit then there are some things that you should know before Disneyland opens its gates for the day. We share ways to save at Disneyland!

My son and I have yet to visit Disneyland together, although we have been to Disney World a few times! I remember trying to price out a trip a few years ago, but after looking at the numbers, I decided not to go.

Ways To Save At Disneyland

Let’s look at ways to save at Disneyland!

Buy tickets in advance

By purchasing Disneyland tickets in advance, you can save as much as $25 per ticket.  If you plan on visiting every day while you’re at Disneyland, this will definitely help you with the costs!

Take advantage of discounted deals on hotel rooms for off-peak times, like January or February

During Disney magic hours, Disney hotels have some of the lowest Disney hotel rates!  If you want to save money on hotel costs, visit the parks in January or February during non-peak times. Keeping in mind that they are not as busy and there won’t be crowds, try to plan your trip during Disney magic hours!

If you’re worried about Disneyland costs, finding a Disney hotel room with discount codes could save you money and pay for itself on the first night!  Renting a Disney car will also save hotel costs because you won’t be spending money on Disney transportation as a whole.

Get a park hopper ticket to visit both Disney parks and Universal Studios Hollywood

You can get park hopper tickets for Disneyland and Disney California adventure  for $90 (students) – $145 (adults).  If you only have one Disney park ticket, you’ll have to choose between Disneyland and Disney California adventure.

Costco Travel Packages

Costco Travel Packages can be a great disneyland cost saving idea.  Costco may be the cheapest place to get Disney tickets!  Even if you’ve purchased your Disney park tickets and are ready to go, it’s always good to look for Disney discount codes just in case!  With so many Disneyland discounts to choose from, you could easily pay more than you should.

Bring your own food and drinks

Bring snacks like rice cakes, trail mix, granola bars, or other foods that are healthy and relatively inexpensive. You want to provide a quick boost of energy when your kids need it most: while waiting in line.  Sharing a packed lunch and bringing plenty of water bottles can save you money. Most parks have lockers to store your bags or coolers while you are in the park, but make sure that they are not full before you arrive!

Food and drinks are expensive at the parks. A single bottle of water can cost $4.00 in Disneyland, while a bottle of soda can cost anywhere from $3.00-$8.00 (depending on size). While you may decide to buy food or drink at the park, you need to plan on spending quite an amount of money.

Bring your own food and water if you plan on spending the whole day at the parks.  In addition to saving money, this can be a good way to avoid overeating.  You may find that with so much delicious food available, you are tempted to buy more than you should!

One thing to note is that food restrictions do apply.  Disneyland disallows outside food and water in some areas of the park, so make sure to read up on the rules before you go.

Share! Split the cost for big meals with your friends and family.

Pack the essentials

Pack essentials such as sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. Even when we visited Disney World, we brought our essentials. It was usually bright and sunny, so we wanted to avoid having to buy essentials in the park!

Look up coupons before going into the park

Download Disneyland app before the going to the park.

The Disneyland app is a Disney magic tool! You’ll be able to pull up wait times for rides, make dining reservations, see parades and fireworks schedules, and plan ahead for your Disney day.

Look at discount ticket

If you’re on a budget, Disneyland discounts are available for Disney hotel guests, Disneyland annual pass holders, military service members and their families (Military Salute Discount), and Disney fan club members.

Arrive early to avoid crowds

If you know that Disneyland is a top Disney destination, arrive early. You can arrive at Disneyland an hour before the park opens to the public and Disney park employees will let you enter through the Disney gates while they finish setting up for the day! Arrive earlier than this if you’re worried about Disneyland crowds.

Take advantage of disney “magic hours”

Disneyland has an 1 hour break in between the Disney park’s normal operating hours that is exclusive for hotel guests. This special Disney day time is called Disney “magic hours.” During this period, the parks are less crowded and prices for food, merchandise, and Disney hotels are cheaper.

If you’re staying at a Disney hotel during Disneyland magic hours, take advantage of this perk! You’ll be able to enjoy the rides without crowds!

Rent a locker

Rent a locker from Disney so that you can leave any bags or items unattended without having to worry about them being stolen while you’re on rides with your family.  If you’re worried about costs, lockers can save you money by keeping your wallets safe!

Age appropriate rides

If you’re not sure about what rides might be good for kids, ask an employee before getting in line so that you don’t have to wait around too long because they’ll know where all the best ones are.  Some Disney rides are not appropriate for younger kids, despite their popularity, so use your best judgement.

Thanks to Disney movies like Frozen and Finding Dory, some of the Disneyland rides are more ideal than they were in previous years!  Don’t be afraid to ask an employee what will be good for your children – Disneyland employees love Disney and are usually very helpful!

Disney has shows for all ages at Disneyland.  If you have older kids, there are still a lot of options for entertainment that will beat watching Disney TV on your hotel room TV.

Get to Disneyland early or stay late – the parade and fireworks are only available during Disneyland’s schedule!

If you’ve visited Disney many times, there’s a good chance that you may have already seen the fireworks or parades.  There is no Disneyland policy for re-entering Disney lots when an event such as Disney fireworks is going on.  If you want to get the best Disneyland viewing experience, be sure to visit early or stay late!

For all Disney fans, the parade and fireworks should not be missed!

Our Second Trip To Disney World Plus My Tips

Our Second Trip To Disney World Plus My Tips

We recently returned from a mini-vacation to Disney World.  This was our second trip to Disney World.  We spent 3 days at the parks.  This time around we kept to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We spent the majority of our time at Magic Kingdom. The first time going to Disney World, we visited all four parks but were unimpressed with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  At the time we went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, they were starting to close everything up and it was only 7pm!  So we didn’t really get to experience much there, plus it wasn’t geared towards our son who loves rides.  Our son really had no interest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  The rides they did have were carnival type of rides.  He wasn’t interested in the animals either.

Three Fun Ways to Build Self Esteem

In a bit of a rut? Want to build more confidence and improve your skills? The Coronavirus isn’t helping those with mental health issues. Today, we share three fun ways to build self esteem! These are fun ways to go about it!

Three Fun Ways to Build Self Esteem

Travel- especially solo travel

Travel is always a good use of your time and money, and travelling solo can be so empowering. For obvious reasons with a global health pandemic going on at the moment travel isn’t possible right now, but it won’t always be this way. Have a think about where you’d most like to go in the world, and start planning your trip for the future when the virus is under control and life as we knew it before can resume. If there’s one thing that this health crisis has taught us it’s that we shouldn’t take travel for granted, and how incredible it is that on any normal day we can book a trip, hop on a plane and go. Solo travel is great for your self esteem as it shows you that you can manage alone- if you can navigate a foreign country, what can’t you do?!

Find your personal style

It’s easy to say that confidence should come from within, but it’s not that easy to be completely happy in your own skin. We all have our hang ups and insecurities, although the right clothing, hair and makeup can certainly minimise these and help us to feel more confident. Work on your skin, issues here are often a result of underlying problems in the body such as hormonal imbalances meaning topical washes and over the counter treatments won’t be that effective. In other cases, your skin might just need a pamper and cleanse after being subjected to pollution and daily stresses, a hydra facial acne treatment will leave it feeling and looking fresh. Your hair will also be strongly linked to your self esteem, so when you’re able to visit a salon. Go in with a vision and have them bring it to life for you based on your hair type, length and colour. Buying new clothes and makeup and making an effort with your day to day look can also help you to love yourself and enjoy your appearance- have fun with it!

Try a new hobby

Hobbies are essential for people of all ages to have, even if you think you’re too busy to try something new, it’s so worth making the effort to fit it into your schedule. This is because hobbies allow you to build new skills, meet like minded people and stay productive on your days off. Do you spend your days off work lazing around watching Netflix and going back feeling like you’ve achieved nothing? Having hobbies prevents this from happening. You could start up a sport, try baking, crafting, blogging, the list is endless. Even right now while most of the world is locked down, there are a ton of great hobbies from home that you could start and would keep you busy and entertained. It’s so satisfying seeing yourself improve.
