I don’t work out as much as I would like to. I also don’t take care of my skin like I should. When I do either one, I try to use the best products for oily and acne prone skin.

My face is so shiny and so finicky that only certain products can be used. I try to avoid products with excessive amounts of added oils and chemicals. At the same time, I also try to avoid face wash with over-drying properties.

What do you do when you want to scrub off oil, sweat, and dirt without turning into a scaly creature?

Natural Care For The Family

As a single mom, I am always on a budget. However, when it comes to beauty, I like to be picky with what I use!  A few months ago, I had to purchase a list of basic beauty essentials to send to school for my son, such as a comb/brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant, etc.  They were going to work with the students on how to use these items, basic needs, and how to care for themselves! At the time, I needed to buy the items quickly, so I didn’t choose natural items!  After buying everything on the list, I realized, I should choose natural beauty for the family!

Green Beauty with a Tropical Twist

Green Beauty with a Tropical Twist
Beauty Brite Disclosure

When you apply your makeup are you transported to a land of rolling waves and sun-kissed beaches? Does a tropical island blend nourish your skin with every swipe or brush tap? If this sounds too good to be true, it’s not.  It’s all possible with the green beauty brand, Caley Cosmetics.

Meet Green Beauty Brand Caley Cosmetics

Launched in 2018 by mother-daughter team, Annie & Cindy Holland, Caley Cosmetics is a new player on the green beauty, indie scene. Their motto, to create a natural beauty brand that makes you feel like you’re on vacation every day, is unique and inspiring.

As a huge supporter of women owned, indie brands, I love everything about Caley Cosmetics. All of their products are:

  • Leaping Bunny Certified, cruelty-free
  • Made in a family-owned, green beauty facility in Texas
  • Score a 1 or 2 on the EWG toxicity scale (meaning they are safe & nontoxic)
  • Free of sulfates, silicones, parabens, phthalates, petroleum, artificial dyes or fragrances
  • Contain sustainably sourced ingredients manufactured with little to no carbon footprint

Additionally, every one of their products features their island blend of watermelon, pineapple, hibiscus, mango, jasmine, and papaya. This tropical essence is loaded with good for your skin antioxidants that both protect your skin and give it a natural, healthy glow.

Beach Babes Natural Eyes & Brows

The brand was kind enough to send me a selection of their products, including their Beach Babe Natural Eyes liner in Midnight. I also picked up the Beach Babe Natural Brows pencil in Dark.

Available in twelve shades (matte, shimmer & metallic), the Beach Babe Natural Eyes liner comes in a pencil form. Before you think, “ugh not another hard pencil liner,” let me tell you it’s anything but hard. Designed to apply like a gel liner, the Beach Babe Natural Eyes liner glides on very smoothly.

Green Beauty Beach Babe Natural Eyes and Brows

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like this liner. If there is one product I hardly use, it’s eye liner. I just find it so hard to apply on my small eyes and crepey lids. This was not the case with the Natural Eyes liner in Dark, a matte black.

The creamy, water-proof formulation is easy to work with yet has great lasting power and doesn’t budge or smudge. There is nothing worse than looking in the mirror to find your liner has travelled and you now look like a raccoon.

Most of all, I like how it made my blue eyes pop, which is exactly what the liner is designed to do. There must be some kind of magic in that ingredient list of fruit and botanical extracts and oils.

Green Beauty - Beach Babe Natural Eyes & Brows Swatches

Next up, is the Beach Babe Natural Brows, which is currently available in four shades. I did see the founder respond to a consumer review of the product stating that they are working on expanding the line. I couldn’t decide between Brunette and Dark but opted for Dark to match my cool undertones.

When I first tried out this brow pencil, I was not a fan. The formulation was so soft I struggled with the application. Although the pencil provided definition it also seemed to apply too much product. My brows were looking dark and chunky. With a little spoolie finessing and some clear brow gel I was able to tone it down.

But then something changed, the more I used the Beach Babe Natural Brows pencil, the better it performed. Now application is like a nice, warm tropical breeze on summer’s night. That might sound a little flowery, but it’s true. I find it very easy to create a brow look that is both natural and precise. I also appreciate how the formula dries down to a soft matte, almost powder-like finish.

Let’s just say when I pair my Beach Babes Natural Eyes and Natural Brows together, my eyes look incredible. They pop to perfection, without looking over done.

Beach Babe, Beach Kiss & Color Wave
Green Beauty Beach Babe and Color Wave lip products

In addition to the liner, Caley Cosmetics also sent me their Beachy Kiss Natural Lip Gloss and Color Wave Natural Lipstick. I also picked up their Beach Babe Natural Lips Liner to pair with the lipstick.

First, let’s talk about the packaging of the gloss and lipstick. They look and feel both modern and feminine. It makes me happy each time I see them sitting on my vanity.

The Color Wave Natural Lipstick, available in 14 colors, features a blend of watermelon, pineapple, hibiscus, jasmine and mango. This combination, along with other good for your lips ingredients, helps hydrate and protect the delicate skin on your lips.

Although I’ve only tried one color, Babydoll a peach nude, I’m very impressed with the pigmentation. The color is rich and very flattering to my skin tone. It’s also the perfect shade for spring and summer.

Green Beauty - Beach Babes Lips and Beachy Kiss Gloss

To complete my perfect pout, I picked up the Beach Babe Natural Lips liner in Coral. Like Baby Doll, it’s a pretty nude. It gives my lips definition, while also preventing from feathering, fading or bleeding.

I typically don’t wear lip liner as much as I did in my colleg days. Of course back in the 90s it was all about the liner, the darker the better. After using the Caley Cosmetics lip liner, I think it’s time I wear it more. The formula is longer wearing and hydrating. Not only does it look good on my lips, but it also feels amazing.

Green Beauty - Lip Swatches

Finally, we have the Beachy Kiss Natural Gloss in Sunshine Sparkle. I really hope the brand expands this  line because this gloss is very unique. It’s not sticky or greasy. Instead, it feels like you are wearing a nourishing oil on your lips.

You can wear the gloss alone, for a boost of hydration and sparkle, or over top your favorite lipstick. I like to pair it with BabyDoll and Coral. It gives my lips that perfect touch of shine I love. I also like to apply it to my lips on no makeup days. It nourishes my lips and gives my face a little boost of radiance.

After trying out all these goodies from Caley Cosmetics, I’m looking forward to seeing what they do in the future. I also hope to try out more of their liners, lipsticks, and the, soon to be released, Sunkissed Mineral Makeup.

Are you a fan of green beauty? Which Caley Cosmetics product would you try first?

A Cruelty-Free Brand People Should Know About

The Organic Skin Co. Products Opened
Beauty Brite Disclosure

One of my big beauty and skin care goals for 2019 is to use more cruelty-free brands. My long-term goals are to go organic and vegan. I recently had the opportunity to kick my 2019 goal into gear by testing out some beauty products from The Organic Skin Co.

About The Organic Skin Co.

“Ethics are important to us. We want you to be clear about what ingredients we put in our products, and we want you to know that we’re doing the right thing by you and by our planet. Here’s a look at all the little things we do to give you peace of mind.”

The Organic Skin Co. is certified organic, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Face Products

Set to Impress Pressed Powder in Moonlit ($56) – This is a great setting powder that has a slight tint to it. When swatching I thought it was going to go on the skin darker, but it doesn’t. For me, that’s a great thing. While translucent powders are great, I do like a little color to them. I don’t typically have a ton of shine during the winter months, but this works great at controlling the shine, even when I’m not wearing any foundation.

Lip Products

All About the Gloss in Mist ($30) – This by far one of my favorite lip glosses that I’ve worn in a long time. It’s perfect for every day, it’s comfortable to wear, doesn’t have a strong odor, and it’s just an all-around great product. I still recommend wearing a lip balm under if you have dry lips, but it’s still an excellent gloss.

Lip Service in Ruby Red ($34.50) – This is a neutral red lipstick that works as an everyday color. Even if you’re like me and don’t typically wear red lipsticks, this is a natural red to wear! It’s moisturizing, goes on smoothly, and does last a good couple of hours before having to re-apply.

Eyes

Black Lash in Black ($40) – This isn’t going to give you the look of false lashes. It’s necessary to point this out right away. However, this is still an excellent mascara for work or school.

The Eyes Have It in Day Dreamer and Misty ($36) – I’ve been on a natural eye makeup look, and even started using cream eye shadows. So of course, I had to test out two of the brands cream shadows: Day Dreamer and Misty. Misty is a muted taupe and Day Dreamer is a medium brown. Both are great to throw on, apply some eyeliner, mascara, and you’re good to go!

Overall Thoughts

If you want a cruelty-free and vegan brand, I can’t say enough about The Organic Skin Co. Everything I’ve tried is great! I already have a cart full of products that I can’t wait to order and try out!

Unexpected Natural Beauty To Try

I didn’t start looking into natural beauty products until after I had my son. I was a stay at home mom for the first time. I had a lot of time to discover and read more on beauty products. I found a new home business that sold mineral makeup! After that, I knew I had to try more natural products! I am so excited to introduce you to a few unexpected natural beauty to try!

Become a Natural Deodorant Overachiever

Beauty Brite Disclosure

I can’t remember the last time I used regular deodorant or antiperspirant.  It’s been at least six years, if not more. I chose to make the switch to natural deodorant for two reasons. The first being health and the second because the deodorants I was using weren’t working.

Making the Natural Deodorant Switch

I’m not sure how or why, but my regular antiperspirants began to fail me. They didn’t stop odor. In fact, they seemed to make my armpits smell worse. It was the strangest thing. I would put on deodorant and within about 10 minutes I stunk. This is what initially sent me on a hunt for something different. I thought natural deodorants, with their cleaner ingredient list, might not cause the same reaction.

Additionally, like most people, I’d also began to hear whisperings about the possibility of aluminum in antiperspirants causing breast cancer, and possibly Alzheimer’s. Of course, this concerned me. While studies have shown there is no scientific link between antiperspirants and breast cancer, I still prefer to use more natural products underneath my arms.

Becoming an Overachiever

Type:A. Natural Deodorant Tubes

Since making the switch, I’ve become slightly obsessed with trying out almost every natural deodorant available. From the drugstore to online, I get a thrill out of putting these products to the test. Some of my trials are successful, some not so much.

One of the most important things I’ve learned from all this trial and error is to rotate my natural deodorants. For me, this means having at least two products open at a time and wearing them on different days. It might sound silly, but it really does help ensure I’m getting the odor protection I need and want.

One of the newest deodorants in my rotation comes from Type:A.. After seeing the brand pop up in my Instagram feed, I was even more excited to have them offer up their products for review.

Type:A. Deodorant

I was intrigued by the Type:A. name, sweat-activated technology, and packaging. It is available in two scents, Visionary, a crisp, clean citrus blend with herbal notes, and The Minimalist, which is fragrance and essential oil-free. Unlike most natural deodorants, which come in a jar or stick, Type:A. comes in a squeezy tube.

The tube makes application of their patent-pending formula easy and less messy to apply. I just squeeze the tube until the product comes out, then swipe it on my underarms, and I’m good to go all day. But the packaging isn’t the only Type:A. attribute that works for me.

I also find their formula to be non-irritating, long-lasting, and clothing friendly. In other words, while it’s preventing my pits from stinking, it doesn’t stain my clothes. It’s exactly what I want out of my deodorant.

Did I also mention it’s sweat activated? If you’ve ever used a natural deodorant, you know they may prevent odor but fall short on sweat prevention. Of course, this is because they lack the sweat-reducing aluminum found in antiperspirants. Type:A. was specifically designed to activate whenever wetness appears. This means you stay dry and odor free.

And just when you think this deodorant couldn’t get any better…you’ll also discover it’s also Cruelty-free and made in the USA. (They do use Beeswax in their formula, so it isn’t vegan.) If you’re looking to try something new or make the natural deodorant switch, I highly recommend giving Type:A. a try. Your pits will thank you.

Have you tried Type:A.? Have you ever used deodorant in a tube?
