My six year old loves to read right before we lay him down to sleep. It is part of our nightly routine that has helped scare away the night time terrors and fears of the dark. Since it is almost time to be outside camping I decided to add this book to our repertoire.  The Adventures of Camp Nana Papa by author Donnie Cranfill, with illustrations from Jeffrey Ebbler, is book one in a new series centering around two young children who are excited to visit and spend time with their grandparents at Camp Nana Papa. I don’t know about you, but my son also enjoys time with his grandparents. We all love being outdoors enjoying the world around us. This book encourages and fits with our country lifestyle and love of camping.

The Adventures of Camp Nana Papa by author Donnie Cranfill

My son is getting to the age where we will let him attend camps. It seems only fitting that while at camp, the main characters, Nick and Sarah meet a new friend, ‘Flash the Firefly’. Flash is also a stuffed toy that comes included with the storybook. He helps the children along on their quest throughout the story while loving on your child in real life. He shows the way by lighting up, which helps the story take on a life of its own through their adventures. This is a perfect stuffy if your child is afraid of the dark and is a perfect size for on-the-go travel and or camping.

This story is fun, full of laughter, and encourages memories with extended families. It is the perfect length to sit down with children to read together. The story line is not too difficult which allows our child to follow along or read out loud to us. I cannot wait for the next books in the series to continue the adventures and camp stories!
