Going Green with Your Mattress – Part 2

Going Green with Your Mattress - Part 2 The Experience

Beauty Brite Disclosure

After a few interruptions, like evacuating from a hurricane, I’m finally back with part 2 of my Going Green with Your Mattress experience. In part 1, I talked about setting up My Green Mattress, which was a fun, yet challenging process. Today, I’m sharing my thoughts on what it’s like to sleep on the mattress.

Before I do that, let me give you a little detail about my Natural Escapes mattress from My Green Mattress. I choose this mattress, in a queen, because it was voted as Sleep Sherpa’s 2016 Best Natural Mattress. I also really liked the fact that was the perfect combination of support and springy bounce. As someone with back issues, I need a mattress that has some give but is also more on the firm side.

My Green Mattress Manufacturer Tag

Another benefit of mattresses from My Green Mattress is how they are made. As can see by my mattress tag, the Natural Escapes mattress is made in the USA from 50% Latex Foam Rubber Pad, 25% Cotton Batting and 25% Wool Batting, which acts as a natural flame retardant. It also features a 3-zone, pocketed coil spring system for improved back support. All of the materials are hypoallergenic and certified organic or all natural.

The mattress also comes with a 10-year warranty and 100-night comfort guarantee. If you don’t like your mattress after trying it out for 100 days, you can donate it to a local charity to receive a full refund from My Green Mattress.

My Green Mattress Sleep Experience

My Green Mattress Firmness

Now that you know a little bit about my mattress, let’s talk about sleeping on it. To be perfectly honest with you, my first few nights on the mattress were not a dream. I was extremely uncomfortable, especially in my back and hips. I tossed and turned and had to get up a few times to relieve the pressure.

I was a bit confused and wondered what was going on, so I did some research. It turns out, this is pretty common. Many people report not liking their initial sleep experience with mattresses they ordered from online companies. This doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with the mattress, they just take a little more getting used to than a mattress you were able to test out at a store.

After a week or two, my Natural Escapes mattress began to feel a little more comfortable. My back and hips didn’t hurt as much. I even found I could even sleep on my stomach, which normally I can’t do with other mattresses.

My Green Mattress Comfort

Yet I still wasn’t comfortable enough. I wanted a little more softness so I added an egg crate to my mattress. This gave me just the right amount of softness and comfort, and my sleep began to improve even more.  My Green Mattress does offer a topper, which I may consider getting in the near future especially since it is designed specifically for their mattresses.

I do wish I would have known about the adjustment period so I could have been prepared, but honestly, it wasn’t that big of a deal. Just something to keep in mind should you decide to give My Green Mattress a try, as you may require an adjustment period as well.

Sleeping on MyGreen Mattress

The more I sleep on my Natural Escapes Queen mattress, the more I enjoy it. My back and hip issues have decreased and I’m able to fall asleep faster without tossing and turning as much. I’ve always had difficulty sleeping so having a good mattress is essential for me.

  1. I used to work at a furniture store, so I knew that there is a 30 day adjustment period when I got my new mattress recently! This one sounds good for my guest room 🙂

  2. This seems like a great mattress. I love that it is made eco friendly especially. I am actually probably going to replace my old mattress here soon, so this post came just in time!

  3. I am very happy with my new mattress so I hopefully will have 20 years on this. The Natural Escapes seems like a great one too and eco-friendly.

  4. We just got a new mattress in March, and we were really surprised to learn about the adjustment period ourselves because we bought the exact same mattress we had just been sleeping on in a different size! Luckily it broke in. I didn’t know anything about green mattresses though or I would have checked them out, good on you for being environmentally friendly!

  5. I haven’t heard of this company before but it sounds like a fantastic mattress! Love the fact that it is so eco friendly too

  6. Interesting, this is the first mattress I’ve heard of that’s eco friendly. I’m glad it worked out after that initial adjustment period!

  7. Overall, it sounds like a great mattress to have. I like that it’s on the firm side, because that works wonders for back pain. Sorry about your initial experience though.

  9. It sounds like this is a pretty great mattress. We really need to look into getting a new one, and this will be added to our list to check out.

  10. I’m sorry about your experience, it does get better. There really are cases wherein people go through an adjustment period when they have a completely different mattress from the one that they previously owned. It sounds promising though, I’m sure it’s worth it.

  11. We have a firm mattress and I like how supportive it is.. but I do also love sinking into nice soft mattresses in hotels and such.

  12. Thank you for being honest about how you found the mattress hard at first. It is great that it did ease up after a bit and I like that it is a natural as well.

  25. I’ve never heard of this mattress before. It sounds like a great mattress! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing.

  26. I love soft mattresses! The softer the better! But I do always sleep with a pillow between my legs!
