Eco-Friendly Cleaning From A Trusted Brand- CLR Stain Magnet & CLR Calcium Lime and Rust cleaner
Beauty Brite Disclosure

CLR is a brand of cleaning products that have been around for many years. I used to use a CLR cleaning product many years ago, though I don’t know when exactly I moved away from using it. Trying new products when it comes to cleaning my home is always interesting; so I guess that’s why, since there are always new and exciting products hitting the market.

But, I’m firmly back on the CLR train. Not only for the Calcium, Lime, and Rust cleaner but also for another product, CLR Stain Magnet carpet cleaner, that I hadn’t even heard about yet. Stay tuned to hear about that.

Another reason I’m back to using CLR products is an environmental one. The two CLR products I’m going to be talking about here are both eco-friendly products and are part of the EPA Safer Choice program. They are septic-safe, non-toxic, biodegradable, paraben-free and contain no added fragrance. Even small changes add up over time, so this is an easy choice for me. It’s environmentally friendly and the products work great!

I know, thinking about all of the products we use everyday, it is a very overwhelming idea to think about changing how we live and what we use daily to have a better impact on our environment. But, hear me out. It’s all about small steps. Small changes add up and can make a big difference over time. This is one small change we can make to move toward an important goal of being more environmentally friendly overall.

BEFORE CLR —- Gross, gunky stainless steel faucet area.

CLR Calcium Lime and Rust cleaner is one I have used many times in the past. Not since our first home have I had a stainless steel sink. And, I hated that kitchen sink. It never looked very nice, always had crusty stuff building up around the faucets. And if you didn’t dry it out every single time you used it, it would get ugly spots in it. I use the kitchen sink about a million times a day and have no dang time to dry and buff the stinking sink every time I use it. No, thank you!

I absolutely, head over heels fell in love with the white cast iron sink in the kitchen in our second home. It had its downsides, too, like the fact that it would get stained from time to time when people dumped coffee in it and didn’t rinse it down. But, it cleaned up like new and always looked awesome and beautiful. And, maybe most importantly, it dried looking sleek and smooth without the disgusting spotting that my stainless steel sink had displayed.

So, when that home was destroyed by a tornado and my family was faced with building a new home, I absolutely insisted on another white cast iron farm-style sink in my kitchen. I really wanted the big, rectangular-shaped all open design sink, but we couldn’t find one at the time. I ended up with a similar one that has one larger side and one smaller side. And I love it. It’s great!

However, for the bar sink that I wanted in my kitchen island, literally all we could find were the dreaded stainless steel sinks. So, I had to go with that. And, it’s great. Love the convenience. And mostly it dries pretty nice, in the basin part of the sink. You kind of have to get close to it to see the gross buildup around the faucets.

But, again, it gets the crusties around the edges and the base of the faucet. Drives me absolutely crazy. I can’t say why I’ve never tried CLR for this issue, but just 10 minutes with CLR cleaner, a scrubbie, a hard-bristled brush and a toothpick and all that gunk has been loosened and wiped away. It’s amazing! Take a look…

You can see that half has been cleaned and scrubbed with CLR and the other half still has yucky buildup.

The sink in one of my bathrooms, for some reason also tends to look icky around the drain and overflow area. And it has, like, a stained area that makes it look like the faucet is constantly dripping, even though it doesn’t. It bugs the life out of me. But, CLR made very short work of these problems and now it looks brand new again. So, yeah, CLR is back to stay! For sure.

Carpeting in our homes is a very popular flooring option, but comes with challenges when it comes to keeping them clean and stain-free. So, CLR Stain Magnet carpet cleaner is a product that I am really excited to give a go, especially since I have pets. Where there are pets there are stains. It’s unavoidable.

My children are older, so things like grass stains and other ordinary stains common to having young children aren’t something I have to deal with very often anymore. But, pets are much like young children and stains are inevitable. Common stains on my carpets are from spilled drinks or from dog urine. We all have knocked over a drink or two in the living room — and coffee, tea, or soda are famous for causing stains.

Our dogs both went through the tornado that destroyed our previous home right along with me. It scared them to death. To this day, our little beagle/Jack Russell mix, Jaci, (if I am not quick enough to get her outside before a storm starts getting close) will lose control of her bladder as soon as the distant rumblings of thunder can be registered by her ears. She will shiver uncontrollably and need to be held close and be stroked and hear calming words until it’s over. It’s a bit heartbreaking, the poor little thing!

I’ve tried about a hundred carpet stain cleaner products, and most are okay. But, it’s a rare product that cleans a carpet stain well and quickly. CLR Stain Master Carpet Cleaner really impressed me. It was quick and effective. Here I show before and afters on both a pet urine stain as well as a drink stain at the base of one of my couches.

I forget now if it was tea or soda, but it was a dark brown drink and it’s a stain that I’ve cleaned multiple times only to have it peek back through once it dries and gets a little traffic.

So far, the two areas shown here have not had any ghost of the stains pop back through. So, I’m really happy with this cleaner! It also works on fabrics and other flooring types. It’ll get out red wine, blood, mud, grass, marker and most other types of stains you’ll come across in your home.

I wonder if it would get out spilled drink and oily french fry stains off of the fabric seats in my car? One of these days I’ll have to try it and see. I bought another brand of foam cleaner to try on those stains, maybe I could do a side-by-side test to see which one works better?! That might be fun.

Definitely check out the post, A New Kind Of Clean to read our thoughts on more CLR products for the bathroom and kitchen. You can find a broad range of CLR products available on Amazon or the CLR website.

If you’ve given these two products a try, let us know what you think about them and all the different ways you’ve found to use them!
