Life is hard. Figuring out what to eat can feel like a steep mountain to climb sometimes when you’re faced with this decision on top of the hundreds of other things you have to plan every day. You already have to plan and make a list when going to the grocery, so this is one of the easier times to think ahead. I usually sit down (or dig through the refrigerator and pantry) when the kids are at school and my husband is at work so that I don’t get interrupted. It allows me time to think without distractions (assuming there isn’t an animal puking, chasing a fly, or one of the kids isn’t texting me from school to bring something that they forgot).
Luckily, when it comes to most foods the family isn’t too picky about the brand and is willing to try new things that I bring home. I enjoy finding new brands to try, it keeps things a bit interesting. A couple of new brands I’ve tried recently in my quest to make gradual healthier food swaps in my home are Angelic Bakehouse and Wedderspoon®.
Bread products are one area where I like to switch it up all the time. I’m always trying new brands of bread, tortillas, and rolls. We have certain favorites, of course. But, our favorites are not exactly the healthiest. So, I try to work in varieties that incorporate healthy ingredients like grains. Some are total duds, dry as the Sahara and about as flavorful. But, I have found a few gems in my search.
There are a few that I have added to my list of those we like and the newest one is Angelic Bakehouse Sprouted 7 Whole Grains. It’s delicious with tuna as a quick lunch or for a Sunday morning French Toast breakfast. I usually need a quicker breakfast than french toast, though, and the Honey Wheat With Raisins is pretty tasty with a little honey drizzled on top. I used it when I made a tuna sandwich for lunch. Yum!
But bread gets boring sometimes. My daughter likes to use tortillas to make wraps with chicken, turkey or ham, lettuce and other toppings and sauces as a way to switch it up sometimes. I decided to try Angelic Bakehouse Sprouted Whole Grains Sweet Potato Wraps in place of buns when I made burgers with an Asian inspired sauce using ginger and hoisin mayo as main ingredients. I was serving roasted sweet potato wedges as a side dish, so these wraps were perfectly suited to the meal. It was absolutely delicious!!!
Raw honey seems to be everywhere lately, I keep hearing about it. So, of course I had to try it. Wedderspoon® Raw Manuka Honey is raw, unpasteurized honey from New Zealand and features KFactor 16. It’s a non-GMO superfood that not only tastes heavenly but is also great to use in home remedies and beauty regimens.
KFactor 16 indicates that 75% of the pollen in our honey is guaranteed to contain pollen grains that are specific to the Manuka flower. —– Wedderspoon®
I particularly like to use it added to a nice steaming mug of hot tea or as a spread for my morning toast. Or you can just pop a spoonful of it each morning as you get ready for work to reap the health benefits, which is great when you’re in a hurry and don’t have time for toast or tea. For more inspiration check out Wedderspoon’s recipe page and maybe even download their recipe book for more ways to enjoy this fantastic honey.
Doesn’t that look delicious? It’s very smooth and is thicker than most honey products you find on store shelves. This is a honey product that doesn’t drizzle quickly off of a honey dipper, it’s best to use a knife to spread it or a spoon to stir it into a delicious hot drink.
Honey is a great way to soothe a sore throat, too. When I get one, I keep throat lozenges in my purse and my nightstand. I usually buy non-medicated throat lozenges because the kids don’t like the flavor. Wedderspoon® Organic Manuka Honey Drops work wonders for irritated throats and come in interesting, unique flavors.
My favorite flavor is the Eucalyptus flavored drops. I keep these all for myself on the nightstand and put the lemon flavored ones in the kitchen cabinet for everyone else to use. If your kids are picky about cough drops, they have really cute little honey pops for kids so you can give them something to treat their sore throats but they’ll just think they’re getting a treat.
