If you’ve read some of my previous posts on Beauty Brite you might have heard me mention my affection for Diet Coke. It’s one of my favorite drinks. I often have an icy cold glass of it next to me while writing, playing around on the internet, cleaning, reading or crafting.

They used to have a rewards program that I participated in. I entered codes from their products and traded those points for cool stuff. I think the coolest thing I received through that program was a silver tumbler with a lid and plastic straw. If I had enough points and there wasn’t anything else I was really interested in, I would trade points for a coupon for a free 12-pack of Coca Cola.

Each code you entered earned a specific number of points. The only thing I didn’t like about that program was that you there was a limit on how many codes you could enter to earn points each week.

First of all, several family members knew I was using that rewards program and would save all of their codes for me. In addition to the codes I had from purchased products, I often had some I couldn’t use until later.

Also, I was pretty sporadic about remembering to enter codes. This resulted in the accumulation of zip loc bags full of caps as well as codes torn from 12-packs of Coke building up in my mudroom.

Then, the company announced their intention to discontinue that rewards program, which bummed me out a bit. I was very happy to hear that they intended to launch a different rewards program. So, I held onto the cap codes until I could find out if they would be able to be used with the new rewards program.

This summer has been a bit hard so far with all the unrest in the country and the coronavirus stuff going on. So, I decided it was a good time to check out the new rewards program and do something fun to get my mind off of everything going on in the world for a short time.

I like their Coca Cola Give program because there isn’t a limit on how many codes I can enter (at least that I’ve found, so far).

You probably think I’m joking about having a bunch of codes built up. I assure you, I’m not. Check it out, here are all the codes I had sitting in bags in my mudroom to use when they launched this new program.

Yeah. Not joking! I had been collecting caps in quart-size zip loc bags, using gallon size bags only when I was out of the smaller size and even brown paper lunch sacks when I had no zip loc bags in the house at all. In the end, before taking this picture, I had nearly 30 various bags of caps. It was nuts! It took me about a week of working every evening for a couple of hours to get all of these codes entered into the website.

In looking at their new rewards program, I decided I was interested in using my codes to make monetary donations. To try it out, I chose the American Red Cross and entered a few codes. It is so easy and quick to do!

Then I realized that you can make donations to schools! So, I have subsequently been entering codes with my daughter’s school designated to receive the donations.

If there isn’t a school you’re interested in donating to, here are the other organizations you can choose:

National Park Foundation

Boys and Girls Clubs of America

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Children’s Miracle Network Hospital

American Red Cross

Special Olympics

USO

And for all of you out there about to say I need to find a healthier snack — here ya go!

I thought an apple was a fitting snack while entering codes to benefit my daughter’s school, cuz teachers … apples … pretty neat little connection there. LOL

After entering all the codes you can see in the pictures above, here’s where my total donation history stood.

Yes, that’s nearly $65 donated to my daughter’s school. But, some time has passed since this I took these pics. I have gathered more codes to enter.

As it stands right now, I have donated a total of:

$71.60!!!

It feels good to do a nice thing for my community. Our children’s schools have always been appreciative of the different ways that parents have supported their efforts to provide kids with fun activities and additional educational opportunities that would otherwise be beyond their budgets to provide.

I think this is definitely a much more fun and consistent activity to support our local educational institutions than constant fundraisers. Our local Kroger also has a program that shoppers can sign up for to support schools, so I do that, also. I like these two programs because it’s easier for parents to do things like this. Also, if there were more programs like this, it would mean less time for school personnel researching fundraising efforts and more time doing what they love most — helping our kids to grow into successful, well-rounded adults.

What is your favorite way to support your schools? Alternatively, which of the organizations listed above would you donate to through Coca Cola Give?

A Wonderful Winter Read

A Wonderful Winter Read - Lost At Sea by Erica Boyce - Keurig Junior Mints Hot Cocoa K-Cups
Beauty Brite Disclosure

I am always keen to find new authors to read and new genres of the written word to dive into. This winter, a new author I’ve found is Erica Boyce

I love a book with unexpected turns that makes me think about or see a situation in a totally new way. I’ve read novels about people who were adopted and I’ve read memoirs/biographies about people who were adopted. But, I don’t think I’ve read a book that explored the adoption of one child from so many different people’s perspectives at once before. I found that aspect of this story to be very fascinating and fulfilling.

On top of that this story takes place in a small town, features a mysterious disappearance that baffles everyone, the unraveling of secrets, and tackles the topic of substance addiction in and around all of the other plot elements.

Even though there are a lot of different characters and elements, I never felt like the story was rushed or confusing. At the same time, I think that there is enough of a foundation here that Ms. Boyce most certainly might have created a whole series or at least a very long novel out of it easily without losing her audience’s attention. Not saying she should have done that, but I mean it as a high compliment to her that I could easily have become ensconced in the narrative for a much longer time if she’d wanted to go that route. I would love to learn more about the town and its inhabitants.

I mentioned that one of the elements in the story was substance addiction. Without spoiling anything, there is one character who is supplying narcotics to addicts that I just didn’t see coming at all. Total surprise!! And honestly, I’d love to see an exploration of that topic and how seemingly ordinary people come to do very surprising things like this (just a thought I had after closing the last page of the book).

Lost At Sea by Erica Boyce will be on sale March 3, 2020. Definitely pick up a copy and give it a read. I’m glad I made it one of the 50 books I try to read each year for my Goodreads reading goal!

A Wonderful Winter Read - Lost At Sea by Erica Boyce - Keurig Junior Mints Hot Cocoa K-Cups

Synopsis:

When beloved fisherman John Staybrook vanishes in the night, his loss stirs up more than grief. His daughter Ella is convinced he’s still alive and vows to bring him home.

But as she searches the small Massachusetts town, secrets throughout the community begin to bubble to the surface. As the pieces fall into place of what really happened, everyone from the babysitter to the local librarian are swept into a more urgent question: Why would someone go out in the middle of a deadly storm?

Erica Boyce weaves a tense yet hopeful tale of family secrets whispering across the rocky shores and the unshakeable strength that love leaves behind.

A Wonderful Winter Read - Lost At Sea by Erica Boyce - Keurig Junior Mints Hot Cocoa K-Cups

Nothing goes better with a good book during the winter time than a nice hot beverage. Hot tea is fine, but I prefer a nice cup of hot cocoa or cappucino.

Junior Mints Hot Cocoa K-Cups are an easy way to get a fast cup of hot cocoa. Smooth and minty chocolate flavor warms me all up inside and the scent takes me back to that smell when opening a box of Junior Mints at the movie theater as a kid.

The only way this might be better is to have some whipped cream I could dollop on top and some soft, doughy, sweet doughnuts to snack on. You can also find other candy-inspired flavors like Charleston Chew (creamy vanilla marshmallow flavor) and Sugar Babies (caramel cocoa flavor)!

You can find these pretty much anywhere you like to shop for k-cups — like Amazon, Walmart, or Bed Bath & Beyond.

Find Erica Boyce at Goodreads and her website to learn more, and find her book at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or anywhere else you shop for books.

The Perfect Prosecco For Your New Years Celebration

Beauty Brite Disclosure

New Years Eve is here and one of the finishing touches is the perfect Prosecco for your New Years celebration. Since my husband’s birthday is on January 2nd, we’re throwing a combined birthday party and New Years Eve celebration on the 31st.

I love entertaining and having our friends over. However, it definitely takes a lot of work. From planning food, activities, drinks, and massively cleaning my entire house.

This year, we decided to do a more casual New Years Eve party than we’ve done in years past. Comfy clothes or pajamas will be the dress code. We’ll be serving pizza, crock pot party meatballs, chips, pretzels, and drinks. For fun, we’ll be playing lots of board games, cards, and trivia games. Basically, we just want everyone to comfortable, relax, and have fun.

Pizza and crock pot meatballs were easy picks for casual comfort food. However, finding the right sparkling wine was more of a task! But, after a long search, I’ve found the perfect fit with Mionetto Prosecco.

I’m a girly girl and it just isn’t New Years until I’ve had my pink wine! My mini bottles of Mionetto Rose’ Prosecco  are perfect for sharing at our party! I know many of my girlfriends will love this pink sparkling wine in adorable pink bottles!

Mionetto Rose’ Prosecco is extra dry and is made from soft pressed red grapes, with beautiful notes of Peach Blossom, Raspberries, Morello Cherry and Strawberries. It also pairs wonderfully with turkey and fish.

For a more classic sparkling wine, I will also be serving Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut to our guests. This sparkling wine in the mini bottles is so perfect for guests to enjoy!

Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut has a wonderfully golden hue! It is flavored with notes of Golden Delicious Apple, Honey, and White Peach. I love the classic and elegant taste of this wine!

In conclusion, whether your New Years Eve party is casual or glam, I highly recommend Mionetto Prosecco. I love the clean and sophisticated taste! I know our guests are really going to both the Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut and Mionetto Rose’ Prosecco.
