8 Ways To Do Your Part For Earth Day!

Beauty Brite Disclosure

Earth Day is April 22 of every year, and this year marks 50 years of Earth Day celebrations.  Even though this year will be an odd Earth Day, we still can celebrate in our ways.  The world needs us to really look at our actions and GET IT TOGETHER!  So we want to share ways YOU can help with EARTH DAY all year long!

Ditch the Plastic Straws

Why not replace those plastic straws with a REUSABLE one?  Yes. I’ve never been a big straw person until recently, so I get it!  One thing I noticed also is you either have to ask for a straw or places have paper straws now, which are horrible!  You know you are helping the sea turtles too!

We love the Zoku Reusable Pocket Straw-3pk because it has so many features that are beneficial to us:

We love the Zoku Reusable Pocket Straw-3pk because it has so many features that are beneficial to us:

  • Food-safe 18/8 Stainless Steel is durable enough for repeated daily use, eliminating the need for disposable straws; silicone mouthpiece mimics the feel of plastic and protects teeth; usable in hot and cold beverages.
  • It has its own specially designed hygienic carrying case, plus the loop hold for makes it easy to bring with you anywhere and anytime.  My daughter hooks it onto her jeans or airpod case.  So darn convenient!
  • The best feature in my book is it COLLAPSES! Easy to put in a purse, a backpack, even in a  pocket!  It is small, and the lightweight container holds both cleaning brush and straw.
  • Since it is a customizable length straw, it will fit any size glass; use for smoothies, iced coffee, adult beverages, and more.  We take ours to Starbucks- we don’t like their paper straws.

Stop with the PAPER TOWELS!

OMG, I must be old school because I hate paper towels!  I grew up with dish towels, and we bring a new one out every day! Not only are cloth towels just as handy in cleaning up kitchen spills are paper towels, but it’s also cheaper to hold onto a cloth towel than to buy a new roll of paper towels every week. Me…I feel it’s just a waste of paper!

Use Bento Boxes!

Stop spending money on take out food at work or sending the kids with paper bag lunches!  Think about all that waste you are creating.

The Neat Bento is easy to carry or fit in any backpack or tote. Adjustable containers and leak-proof design mean that you can customize Neat Bento to fit every meal

Why not use a Neat Bento box!

  • Two modular containers with leak-proof lids (4.5oz and 2oz)
  • Smart Gaskets prevents leaks between compartments
  • Containers fit snug in the tray and stay in place during transport
  • Freezer pack included to keep food fresh

My daughter loves to bring veggies and dip or salads, and this bento box is perfect!  Plus my husband made lunch the other day to take to work- told he didn’t need the baggie on the sandwich but he is weird!

Zoku also offers several hydration options and reusable food storage options with the Neat Stack and Neat Jar.

Go Paperless

Think about all the mail you get, but guess what the majority of banks and other businesses that send snail mail offer PAPERLESS.  Just go online and opt into their paperless program.  Remember pretty much everything is online these days.

Think about how much paper you can save only by getting bank statements and bills sent electronically and paid the same way. Download whatever you can to your phone- even events and travel tickets can be shown on your phone.

Add Plants to Your Home

Did you know that plants can help regulate the temperature through the moisture they release into the air? This also helps reduce the energy required to heat and cool your home. Plus, they look good!  If you are a plant person, make sure you check out Houseplant Addicts.

Start a Garden

Speaking about plants- why not start a garden! Developing your green thumb can save you money plus even reduce food waste. If you want to start simple, then creating a herb garden on your windowsill is a great start. I Don’t need experience, but a GREAT BOOK helps a lot.

My favorite book is Organic Gardening For Everyone- Homegrown Vegetables Made Easy- CaliKim. This is a perfect hands-on guide with advice and step by step guidance. Exactly what I need since I'm not a green thumb.

This book is AMAZING because it walks you through everything.  My husband is going to build raised boxes, and that is even in there!

Repurpose Jars (and Other Containers)

I do this a lot.  My cupboards are full of jars and food containers. Stop throwing them away0 reuse them for food, flowers, bathroom storage. Jars can also become drinking glasses or even small serving bowls. Larger containers can be used to store other items like loose change or things that might just be sitting in your junk drawer.  I even create artwork with jars!  Get creative!

Shop Eco-Friendly Clothing Brands

There are a ton of eco-friendly brands out there making clothes with minimal impact on the environment. We want to share two brands that we love!

The first one is the Hamilton Perkins Collection.

And one thing I love is how durable the bag is plus pretty darn stylish. My daughter and I both wanted the Earth Bag Premium- a travel bag, which is made from recycled bottles!

Every bag is UNIQUE!  Why? Because they are made from recycled plastic water bottles, pineapple leaf fiber, and billboard vinyl. The result is that no two bags are ever the same. WOW!  And one thing I love is how durable the bag is plus pretty darn stylish. My daughter and I both wanted the Earth Bag Premium– a travel bag, which is made from recycled bottles!

  1. I love these ideas!! You brought up things that I used to do, like repurposing jars. Lately, I’ve been recycling them in our hob.
