Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and I have yet to get my Mother’s gift this year. As I think about Mother’s Day, I also start thinking about all the new moms-to-be that I met at a recent event I attended.
When I was a new mom, I did not know much and I was winging it so much at the time. I learned by being hands on when I was pregnant. Over the years of being a mom, I learned many things and here are my top three things I wished someone would have told me.
Over the years, I learned that you need to have an outlet to talk to someone about what you are going through. When I was pregnant with my son Josiah, the feeling of isolation started to consume me. With no one at the time to talk to, a sense of depression crept up on me so many times that it was hard to deal with everything I was feeling by myself.
2. Put Health First
I learned to put my health first and take care of myself. So many times I would forget to eat and drink to stay hydrated. The easiest thing to do for a busy mom is to do juicing or smoothies. You can put in a ton of veggies and fruits when you are making your homemade drinks that give you a lot of vitamins. If you don’t have time to juice your drinks, I have found that the variety pack by Bundle Organic is full of so many healthy benefits for you and your baby. The three-pack Bundle Organic has Orange, Carrot, Berry, and Ginger; a Kale, Lemon, Apple, and Ginger; and the final drink is a Dark Berry with veggies variety.
The Bundle Organic and Harney Son Teas have three different varieties:
The first tea is a pregnancy wellness tea that is organic and whole-food based and is caffeine-free and non-herbal. The four ingredients in this tea are rooibos, orange peel, cardamom, and coconut which work together to help the new mom to feel more comfortable and to help calm cravings, soothe heartburn, and ease nausea. The Pregnancy Wellness Tea would have helped me with my crazy cravings of pickles that I had all the time when I was pregnant.
The second tea flavor that will help the new mommy to be is the lactation support tea. I tried to breastfeed my little boy, but it just did not work for me. I had such a hard time with lactation that I eventually gave up trying to breastfeed. With this tea having a beautiful blend of ingredients, it would have possibly helped me while trying to nurse and increase my milk supply.
The third Bundle Organic Tea blend is one that would have helped me so much when I was pregnant and kept my stomach from turning with nausea — the nausea relief tea. This tea is a blend of orange peel, lemon peel, and ginger to help with that horrible morning sickness that liked to visit me way too often when I was pregnant with Josiah.
3. Don’t Be Afraid To Fail
Lastly, as a new mom, I learned that I should not be afraid to fail. So many times I thought that I was going to be a terrible mother. I moved back in with my parents before I had my son and I was going to be a newly single mom taking care of a baby. I was beyond scared, thinking I was going to mess up with me having no clue as to what I was doing. I just forgot one thing, my baby was not going to remember all my mess ups. I tell Josiah all the time that I am a bad mom, and he tells me back that I am not a bad mom at all. He knows that I want to do more things with him. He knows that I work nights so when he is sleeping I can be at work, and when he wakes up, I am here with him during the day time. He likes me working nights so that when we want to go out during the day it is possible to do.
So remember to stay healthy, have an outlet to talk to someone, and you will fail but your children will always remember the good days
How did you handle being a mom? Did you have a hard time?
