Our kids have all decided they are too old for dressing up and trick-or-treating. I guess I get it for the two older ones, they are 22 and 15, after all. But, I’m a little bummed that our 12-yr-old daughter, L., has decided not to costume-up and hit the road. This isn’t the first year, either. She hasn’t wanted to dress up and trick-or-treat for the last two years. Instead, we have opted to get pizzas from Papa Murphy’s, make some Halloween themed snack foods and have a big bowl of candy to eat while watching scary movies at home. Not a bad way to spent an evening as a family, all in all.
Halloween is one of our favorite holidays. While I haven’t dug out the totes of decorations from storage yet, I have gotten a little start on decorating already. My daughter, J., and I were out piddling around town one day last week and stopped into Dollar General for something. While there we found these really cute Halloween-themed window clings for $1.00 a sheet so we picked up a few. As I was cleaning the windows in preparation to hang them up, I saw this Mama Spider in the kitchen window between the glass and the screen with her little pod of spider eggs. I cleaned around her web so I wouldn’t disturb her. I just couldn’t bring myself to kill her. In any case, her web is not inside the house and we rarely have the windows open due to the seasonal allergies others in my house suffer from, so I left her alone.
