A few months ago, I read a few news articles that the CEO of Levi’s urges people to stop washing their jeans. At first, I thought that it sounded really disgusting. As I thought about it, my jeans eventually fade in color and the shape and fitting are never the same. I am always thinking green and try to live green. When I wash denim, I always hang dry them, that way they don’t shrink. I have since taken it a step further. I have stopped washing my denim. I do not want my jeans and jean jackets to fade.
Since I am no longer washing my jeans in the washer, I am now putting my denim in the freezer overnight. So far, I have put my jean jackets in the freezer and left them in there for at least 8-10 hours. I can also eliminate odors by spritzing jeans with white vinegar or vodka and hanging them out to air dry, which I may try for a quick refresh!
I started all of last week. I told my husband I am putting something in the freezer that normally does not go in the freezer and not to be alarmed. He asked if I was going to put a watch in the freezer to freeze time. Ha! I then went on to explain that I am no longer washing my denim clothes.
A few weeks ago, I purchased a jean jacket that has a light wash and I did not want to risk fading the color even more. In order to preserve the color, I am now freezing my denim. I really try to care for our clothes as we rarely buy new clothes. My husband and son really do not wear denim, so it is only my clothes that will be going in the freezer.
