What were you doing nine years ago today? For us, we were in the hospital nine years ago today. Today is our son’s 9th birthday. He was born about a week early and I was far from ready for his arrival. I was working full time at the time and I was supposed to start my week long vacation 9 years ago today. You can read my post from last year Eight years ago today.
Nine years ago today, I had plans for my vacation. I was going to get my hospital bag together. I only had the bag out and ready. I also had a few items packed in there but I was not finished. I wanted to get more clothes and other items together. While we were at the hospital, I had my husband bring me the items we did not have time to grab.
I was going to use my vacation time to get the house ready. I was going clean the house, get his room ready as far as his crib and sheets set up.
Being in labor was not like the movies. My water broke at around 3:30 am. I got up around that time to use the restroom and I kept leaking. I had no idea it was my water, I thought it was my urine that would not stop. I ended up putting on a pad because I kept leaking just so I could go back to bed. I woke up again around 7 am and the same thing happened. I told my husband about the leaking and we decided I should call the doctor’s office. They told us to go to the hospital. I called my mom to let her know that I thought my water broke.
My husband and Mom did not believe I was in labor.
I wanted to shower before we left and my husband thought was crazy. I wanted to be clean. I had no idea how long we would be in the hospital either. I am so glad I did too. I did not have our baby until late in the evening.
My husband and I look back and cannot believe our son is 9 years old. Our son is a handful but we love him unconditionally. He is hilarious and always teaching us new things. We have learned patience, love, understanding and alternative ways of communication.
