As you may already know, we recently moved to a new apartment and my in-laws live a few doors down from us!  When you move to a new place, you quickly realize that you need new things or even replace your old things.  Furnishing and decorating your new home is one way people are able to make it their own, especially living in an apartment.  I am working on making it a home.

Since we both live in the same type of apartment, we are finding that we are in need of the same things.  One thing we both want to get is a medicine cabinet for our bathroom!  Can you believe our bathroom does not have a medicine cabinet?  My mother-in-law and I will be going shopping for that soon.

My mother-in-law needs a new tea kettle and I definitely need a new one as well.  The one we have is one we bought when we first got married.  It was a cheap one.  It will be nice to have a good tea kettle.  She wants to get a Rachael Ray tea kettle, which is perfect because I already have a Rachael Ray casserole dish.  I know her cookware is awesome and quality products.

My husband and I also want to get a welcome mat and possibly an area rug.  I would love to put a rug in our entry way and an area rug for our living room.  I have to talk to my husband about those ideas.  He is great at matching colors and knows what looks good in each room.  I leave the color choices up to him.  If it were up to me, it would look like an upside down, mismatched apartment full of colors!

I do appreciate that my husband let me choose which washer and dryer I wanted to get.  He helped me ultimately decide by sharing his opinion with the choices I presented to him.  I love my new appliances.  I adore the fact that they are energy and water efficient.

We signed a two-year lease, so we will be here for a while!  Our former apartment is not to far from where we are now and we were there for two years as well.  We love the city, the area and the neighborhood.  We have the shopping we want nearby.  Now, we have the in-laws.

I am enjoying the process of making our new apartment our own.  I have a ton of pictures and art that I want put up on the walls.  Hopefully I won’t have to wait 6 months though.  I love displaying art and our pictures on the walls because I can look at them anytime I want.

Enjoy your new place and be happy in it. It takes a little while to get everything in order but soon it will seem like home, specially after you hang your pictures.

It must be exciting to move into a new place and make it your own. I somehow admire appartment dwellers, leaving the maintainance to the owners. As a home owners who’s house needs work, I find it overwhelming at times trying to get things fixed on a budget.
