I remember watching Finding Nemo with my husband for the first time. We loved it. We laughed, we cried and we found the movie unforgettable. Little did we know, our son would love the movie too.
When our son was a baby, we had the Disney Junior channel on. We also had several Disney movies saved on DVR for him to watch. He would watch Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. over and over again.
When Finding Dory came out on DVD, I knew we had to have a copy! I try to guard our DVD collection because our son is very destructive! These days, our son does not have the patience to sit through an entire movie, let alone a cartoon. I had to wait until my son was at school to watch Finding Dory because he kept turning it off when I tried watching when he was home.
I love how they tie in Finding Dory and Finding Nemo. Finding Dory is a prequel to Finding Nemo with the way they tell the story.
Dory has flashbacks of her family and she is determined to find her parents. Little by little, she remembers clues to her past. Nemo and Marlin help her along the way. On Dory’s trek to find her family, she is separated from Nemo and Marlin.
Dory makes new friends, such as Hank. Hank helps Dory find her navigate within the aquarium. Hank also has a purpose for helping Dory. He wants out.
Dory also finds Destiny, a friend from the past and Bailey. They help her with their natural talent of listening and communicating beyond their tank.
Meanwhile, Nemo and Marlin learn to value their friendship with Dory and how she taught them how to solve problems. Nemo and Marlin are determined to find Dory and are taken on their own adventure.
Her friends learn the power of teamwork, friendship and family along the way. Your family isn’t just those related to you by blood. Family can be amazing friends in your life.
My favorite quote from the movie is, “Don’t be such a Dory, Dory.” I seem to find myself forgetting things too. It reminds me of what I would say to myself too.
Early on, Dory taught us a very valuable lesson: Just Keep Swimming. No matter what happens in your life, just keep going. Don’t let anyone get in your way or bring you down.
What does “just keep swimming” mean to you?
